DECLARING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1957, AS NATIONAL TEACHERS DAY



WHEREAS, education is the handmaiden of democracy and the teachers are the main instruments thereof;

WHEREAS, the teachers constitute one of the foremost groups which labor uncessingly toward the continued growth and progress of the nation;

WHEREAS, the teachers as a rule never waver in their devotion to assigned duties and responsibilities, and may therefore be considered models of efficient and faithful workers:

WHEREAS, in all communities teachers are always called upon to cooperate in social, cultural, and civic enterprises; and

WHEREAS, the teachers deserve greater public recognition of their essential place in the scheme of national existence and appreciation of the personal sacrifices which they often make in their daily work;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of .the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, November 29, 1957, as National Teachers Day and order the schools to celebrate the day with appropriate activities, I also urge every community to do honor to its teachers, both public and private, by having testimonial programs which will indicate the importance of the work of the teachers to the community in particular and to the nation in general.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 18th day of November, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
