DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM FEBRUARY 16 TO 22, 1958, AS WORLD BROTHERHOOD WEEK



WHEREAS, in many countries of Asia, North America, Europe and other regions, World Brotherhood Week will be celebrated on February 16-22, 1958, for the 24th successive year;

WHEREAS, with the race in the development of international ballistic missiles and rockets as the latest in war weapons and physical support for the drive to ideological primacy, the imperative need of bringing about world-wide disarmament conciliation and cooperation among mankind as brothers under the fatherhood of God has taken on a new meaning and urgency in the common effort to avert universal suicide and extinction; and

WHEREAS, the Filipino people have a definite stake for survival, progress, and moral fulfillment in the pursuit and preservation of peace as envisioned by the movement for world brotherhood;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from February 16 to 22, 1958, as World Brotherhood Week and enjoin all the people of the Philippines regardless of station, race, color, or creed to observe the week by appropriate ceremonies, public discussions, and programs truly reflective of the common will to nourish the spirit of universal good will, understanding, and cooperation which are essential to the attainment of lasting peace.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 28th day of January, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
