[ PROCLAMATION NO. 526, August 06, 1958 ]

DECLARING TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 1958, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES



WHEREAS, the eightieth birthday of the late President Manuel L. Quezon falls on Tuesday, August 19, 1958;

WHEREAS, it is desirable that our people be given full opportunity to render homage to the memory of our illustrious leader; and

WHEREAS, the nineteenth day of August of every year is also Citizenship Day under Proclamation No. 331 dated August 4, 1952;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Tuesday, August 19, 1958, as a special public holiday throughout the Philippines. I enjoin the observance of the day with appropriate ceremonies designed to inculcate upon our people, especially the youth, the rights and duties of good citizenship to the end that they will consecrate themselves to the ideals and traditions of our Republic.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 6th day of August, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the thirteenth.
