[ PROCLAMATION NO. 533, September 17, 1958 ]

DECLARING SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1958, AS JOSEFA LLANES ESCODA DAY



WHEREAS, the late Josefa Llanes Escoda, outstanding patriot and civic leader, was killed by the enemy during the last war for her underground activities and aid given to war prisoners and allied internees in military and concentration camps; and

WHEREAS, the National Federation of Women’s Clubs of the Philippines, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, and other civic organizations desire that her birthday anniversary on September 20, 1958, be proclaimed as Josefa Llanes Escoda Day as a tribute to her patriotism and her contributions in the fields of social work and the girl-scouting movement;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, and in recognition of her outstanding services as patriot and civic leader, do hereby declare Saturday, September 20, 1958, as Josefa Llanes Escoda Day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 17th day of September, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the thirteenth.
