[ PROCLAMATION NO. 61, April 17, 1948 ]

DECLARING A PERIOD OF NATIONAL MOURNING ON THE OCCASION OF THE DEATH OF HIS EXCELLENCY MANUEL ROXAS, PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES.



WHEREAS, on the fifteenth day of April, nineteen hundred and forty-eight, His Excellency, Manuel Roxas, President of the Philippines, died suddenly and his untimely death has caused deep sorrow and affliction among our people;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elpidio Quirino, President of the Philippines, do hereby proclaim the period from April seventeenth to May seventeenth, nineteen hundred and forty-eight, as a period of national mourning for our beloved President and leader. During this period, flags of all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines shall be flown at half-mast.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 17th day of April, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the second.
